Robert W. (1825-1902) was known as the best wicker maker in Denmark and was appointed purveyor to Her Majesty. Many, now famous, architects came to his workshop to get knowhow and understanding about weaving and wicker work. Among those were Danish architects Arne Jacobsen, Viggo Boesen, Nanna & Jørgen Ditzel and Kay Bojesen. They had many of their prototypes made in Robert W's workshop in Copenhagen.
Robert W. was a pioneer in rattan production. What he did to the craftsmanship and the way he challenged the material, lays the groundwork for the way we know rattan furniture today.
The Robert chair is an elegant dining chair designed by and named after Robert W. The chair was designed back in 1901 and is the oldest design in our ICONS collection. The chair is handmade with great expertise and the fine detailed windings in the seat and back are made on a rattan frame.
The Robert chair is also available in an outdoor version, the Robert Exterior dining chair.
